Nov 14, 2005: Doggedly Clearing My Backlog of Links

Good news: the first Italian IA Summit takes place in Rome, February 24, 2006. Presentations proposals are due January 15. Wish I could go; I've never been to Roma.

More good news: the Interaction Design Association (IxDA) has formally incorporated and elected an executive committee, with Robert Reimann as its president. The IxDA is off to an excellent start, and I'm happy to support it as a member of its advisory board.

More on enterprise search: FreePint has published Martin White's "Enterprise Search Guidebook" (US$70 single-site/US$211 multi-site). No, I haven't read the whole report yet, but if Martin wrote it, I would expect it to be an excellent resource. As an instructional tool, Martin's report seems to be a useful complement to Stephen Arnold's recent "Enterprise Search Report," which focuses more on the search engine marketplace.

Don't know what to make of this, but it sounds fascinating: check out Amazon's new Mechanical Turk service. "Humans are much more effective than computers at solving some types of problems, like finding specific objects in pictures, evaluating beauty, or translating text. The idea of the Amazon Mechanical Turk web service is to give developers a programmable interface to a network of humans to solve these kinds of problems and incorporate this human intelligence into their applications." (Thanks to Peter van Dijck for the tip)

About the Italian IA Summit: Who says you can't be there? I see you have to be in Australia 4 days later but you can fly to there from Rome too... Want to talk about this?

Whew. Sydney's far, but Sydney + Rome on one trip? If I didn't have a wonderful little kid at home, maybe...
