Jan 16, 2008: Where I've been

It's been a while since I blogged. I'm mostly recovered from the latest Redmond-induced meltdown. I'm doing my best to purge my life of all dependencies on Microsoft. Let that be a lesson to me.

Where have I been? The furthest I've wandered these past couple months was the Great Wolf Indoor Waterpark in the Poconos. A fantastic birthday gift for a fantastic four year-old. I highly recommend it, especially the water slide that's modeled on a toilet bowl. Quite a ride.

What else? Indi Young's Mental Models, Rosenfeld Media's first book, is finally at the printer! It should reach the warehouse by month's end. You'd think producing a book would be the hard part, but selling it is proving to be a comparable challenge. Setting up our shopping cart has proven to be far more difficult than anticipated. Unbelievably so. I'd like to publish a book on the subject. UX of shopping carts, anyone? (While I'm asking: if anyone enjoys trying to break shopping carts, let's talk.)

We're shooting to have Luke Wroblewski's Web Form Design Best Practices go on sale in middle March. It's looking great.

And we've been working hard on other things, like testing both our print and digital book designs. Rich Wiggins and I are hoping to wrap up our own book, Search Analytics: Conversations with your customers by spring. Donna Maurer and Todd Warfel's books are chugging along, and I'm hoping to announce some additional signings soon.

I've retired my enterprise IA seminar, and this spring I'll start teaching a new one on site search analytics for UX. First one's up in Sunnyvale, CA, March 18, through Involution Studios. Then I'll return to tag-teaming with Steve Krug in Boston (April 4) and Chicago (May 15). Details on the new seminar coming soon; also a few other talks are scheduled for Philadephia (April 2) and Champaign-Urbana (April 30). And of course a trip to Miami for the IA Summit (April 12-14).

But the biggest news by far? With luck, I'll have a very appropriate Father's Day present this spring.

So it's a busy time! Best wishes to all Bloug readers, loyal or otherwise; thanks for reading...
