Feb 09, 2008: Finally!

Mental Models thumbnailAfter two long years, Rosenfeld Media is a real, bona fide publisher. More importantly, as a loyal Bloug reader, you can purchase our first book, Mental Models: Aligning design strategy with human behavior, by Indi Young, with a 10% discount from the Rosenfeld Media site (use code BLOUG01MM). You'll receive Indi's excellent book, illustrated and beautifully printed in full color on high quality paper with a sewn binding.

But that's not all! You'll also receive a digital version, optimized for on-screen use. Now a searchable and readable version will go where your laptop goes.

But that's not all! We're providing loads of complimentary content on Indi's book site And all of the book's images are available for downloading and incorporating in your presentations via Flickr.

But that's not all! Both print and digital books have been tested by real live users, supervised by real live UX experts. (We'll be sharing our results this spring in one of your favorite UX magazines.) So we're putting our money where are mouth is.

But that's still not all! If you purchase directly from the Rosenfeld Media site, you'll help us make more money. (You can purchase it from Amazon, but it'll take longer to arrive, you won't receive the digital version of the book, nor will you be able to take advantage of the discount code, so why would you want to do that?) Why should you care if we make more money? Well, you'll help the only publisher dedicated to UX thrive, survive, and bring you more books. And you'll also help us pay for the UX Zeitgeist service, ready to formally open its doors next month.

We're thrilled to have made it this far. And we hope you'll give us, and Indi's book, a try. (Did I mention the 30-day, 100% money-back guarantee?) There are plenty of bugs left to iron out, and I hope you'll ask questions and let us know what needs to be fixed on our customer forum.

Thanks for reading and thanks for your support!

Been looking forward to the release of Indi's book for a long time and I really want to order from the Rosenfeld site but something's wrong with the checkout process. My VISA isn't accepted. I'll retry later.

I saw the "Store beta (very much so)" sign so here are some observations you probably already know of:

1. My card number is entered as a password (displayed as stars ***** which makes it hard to confirm that I'm entering the right numbers)

2. One selectbox for expiration date. Why not use different selects for month and year to avoid mistakes?

3. Whenever you as a user update any information (billing adress or so) and click save, the content of the shopping cart disappears.

Hope to see the store up and running soon!

Congratulations Mr. Publisher! I just ordered my copy, can't wait to read it.

Fantastic! Congratulations - can't wait to get it.

Hi all, thanks for the good words! RM is still a work on progress, and we need all the feedback and encouragement you can spare.

Emil, great comments. You're one of the many folks outside the US and Canada who've not been able to pay. I believe that this problem, due to an overzealous authorize.net configuration, should now be fixed. (Just had a payment from Australia go through fine.)

Regarding #s 1 and 2, I'm not sure we can change those, which are "features" of the shopping cart we're using. Regarding #3, we need to have a look at that.

I'm sorry for the hassles, and hope you'll try making the purchase once more.

Lou, I'm so happy for you that this day has finally come! I know it's been a long, long journey, but you've made it to this new milestone. I'm also happy for me because I've been waiting for Rosenfeld Media to reach this milestone and for me to get this book.

Tim, you're (as always) too kind. Thanks, and thanks for the purchase!

Comment: Indi Young (Feb 11, 2008)

Hi, just checking in here and sharing in the celebration! I just uploaded a bunch of templates to the online resources last week, and more are on the way. I encourage folks to post comments about how they adapted the process to fit their particular ecology.
